Gudauri, Georgia

2 March 2024

5 spaces

An adventurous week of lift-accessed freeriding in the Georgian resort of Gudauri. Modern lifts mixed with cold, dry snow, minimal crowds and plenty of slackcountry potential make for superb riding. We will travel out on Saturday 2nd, arriving in resort on the Sunday. We'll ride for the week, then return to Tbilisi on Saturday 9th, in time for a an evening exploring the Georgian capital before we fly back on Sunday morning.

The plan is for mostly lift and boot-pack accessed freeriding, with the option to drop out of resort and take shuttles back, but depending on the group there are also superb splitboard and touring possibilities

Program:

Arrive in Georgia early Sunday morning. Meet the crew at the airport (time TBC) for a shared transfer to resort. Ride in the afternoon. 5 days of guided riding across Monday - Saturday with one unguided / rest day. On Saturday afternoon, share a transfer back to Tbilisi and have an evening out and overnight stay in the capital city. Fly home on Sunday morning.

Accommodation:

We'll be staying in a small, locally-run hotel near the bottom of the 1st lift. Saturday night accommodation in Tbilisi TBC!

Meals:

Breakfast and evening meals included in resort, not in Tbilisi - we'll find a local restaurant for a last-night blowout!

TRAVEL:

Fly to Tbilisi airport. Most flights seem to be overnight, so we will meet at the airport early on Sunday morning, then share a transfer to resort. For the return journey, we will ride on the Saturday morning, then take a late-afternoon transfer back to Tbilisi for a night out and an overnight stay in the capital before the flight home on Sunday.

Riding level:

This course is for intermediate and up level riders with some backcountry experience. You should have at least 8-10 weeks riding experience and have at least some experience of enjoying turns in off-piste conditions.

fitness level:

You should have a reasonable level of fitness as we will very likely do some hiking during the week in order to find fresh lines. Usually about 1hr or 300m maximum.

Equipment required:

Standard snowboard gear. Avalanche safety equipment loan is included in the course price if you don't have your own.

additional costs (not included):

Flights, Lift pass, 1 evening meal, lunch & apres (cheap!)
